Personality

Nao often seems “empty”, not expressing himself much nor emoting at all. He obeys his master without question.

Before the pact, he was much livelier.

Background

Present

A mysterious young man who burst out of a huge pipe that led to the Underworld, closely followed by a beastly Phantasm that Lian managed to kill by making a pact with him. He is quiet and ignorant about the surface.

When Lian uses her sword, he fuses with it, giving both it and Lian a different appearance : the sigils on the sword glow yellow, the blade becomes blood red, while Lian’s hair and eyes become much brighter.

Along his left leg are the same sigils than on Lian’s sword. They glow red right before he fuses with her sword.

Although he came from there, and has supposedly lived his whole life there, Nao barely has any memories of the underworld before his daring escape from its metal tunnels.

Past

The truth behind Nao’s missing memories is that he is only one half of one person, a man named Na’llemi Orika’ni. When the Awakening Event happened and humans started turning into Phantasms, Na’llemi was one of the only survivors who refused the call. In order to fight off the Awakening and try to stop the propagation of Phantasms, he harnessed the powers of angels and infused himself with them. However, before he could fully become an angel immune to the call, he was betrayed by a close friend who had hidden her transformation into a Phantasm in order to trick him into accepting the call. The conflicting energies in him eventually split apart and went dormant for hundreds of years until both halves were awakened, separately.

And thus, awoken by a reject Phantasm, Silver, Nao was reborn.

But it didn’t end here.

Nao was the almost-angelic half that never finished its transformation, leading to his physical form and emotional state to be extremely volatile. As a temporary solution, Silver sealed his angelic powers and turned him into a Phantasm, with a strong warning that, should Nao leave the Underworld, the seal would come undone.

When the Underworld got taken over by beastly Phantasms, Silver sent Nao away for his safety.

Even if it meant unleashing what was dormant in him.

When Nao finally reached the surface, he desperately made a pact with Lian, which sealed away his just-awoken (and very, very pissed) angelic energy and, due to the hurried nature of the pact, his memories.

• Nao barely feels any pain, and doesn’t need to sleep nor eat, as is typical of Phantasms.
